Cathedral Window 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

These designs are a combination of ideas for stained glass, which have a design within the glass, and leadlight, which has pieces of coloured glass separated, and held together, by strips of lead.

They would look great made in fabric, but I dream of making one of these from glass! I think I have left that idea a bit late … should have got a job with a professional glass worker when I left school over 55 years ago!

Cathedral Window 27, 28 from Virtual Quilter

I love stained glass windows and would love to be able to create my own. In the meantime, I can play with designs for fabric versions.

Love the second design.

Cathedral Window 25, 26 from Virtual Quilter

These designs are probably not what would be expected in a cathedral window, but I would like to see them in windows and doors in my home!

I wonder if stained glass is made anymore. I know a few people make leadlight, but not stained glass.

I have fantasies about the front door having one of these designs, possibly the one above minus the blocks on the sides.

I like the second design.

Cathedral Window 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

I keep thinking I should make this project file a bit brighter, or move the window to the bright side of the house, but despite it being very close to summer here Down Under, the weather is more winter than summer, and has been for over a week, so this is what I would be seeing through stained glass every day at the moment, regardless of where the windows faced!

I wonder if washing the windows would help? Probably not, as most of them have been hosed down in the last little while.

'goedemorgen/middag',
en ook,
 'welkom',
 en dan,
 kan ik u ergens ...

"Daar zit je dan" from Supergoof Quilts

Goedemiddag lieve allemaal,
wat een weertje heh,...
April doet wat hij wil,
dat is wel duidelijk.
En wat wil ik?
Een leuke nieuwe etalage.

Dus bijna alles eruit gehaald,
gestoft,

Cathedral Windows 16, 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Looks like we are looking in, or looking out on a dull day.

I have other projects I am playing with at the moment so this one will have to stay on the list for awhile.

Always nice to have something on the ‘to do’ list.

Cathedral Window 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Much more interesting.

I think those narrow curved lines could be done with narrow strips of fabric plus fusible cut on the bias … and ironed on to the background very carefully.

The Beastly Y-Seam Block Has a Name: Cathedral Window by Nancy Cabot, 1933 Chicago Tribune from Cheeky Cognoscenti

When I was recreating, resizing, recoloring and revising the Moda Modern Building Blocks Sampler in EQ8 Quilt Design Software, swapping out some of the blocks for others in my EQ Block Library, I didn't pay much attention to the information contained in the software "notecard" for each block.  After toiling away at all of these Y-seams, however, I was curious about where this block I'm making came from and I went back to my software to find out.

The 20" block I'm currently working on was ...

"Een lang Supergoof Quiltwinkelverhaal" from Supergoof Quilts

En hoe is het nu Goof?
Wanneer gaat de quiltwinkel open?
Ik wacht al zo lang,....
;o)

Even een tussenstand,

stonden daar kappersstoelen.
Die stoelen zijn echt ideaal,
ze kunnen omhoog,
omlaag,
hebben armleuningen,
je kunt ronddraaien,
en zo alles rustig bekijken.

Maar,...

De zitting ...

Cathedral Window 12, 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

I like this one, designed before I started redrawing applique blocks. Some of these blocks have been redrawn, others are waiting patiently for their turn … way more patiently than me!

I wouldn’t change much in the second design … except the colours. They need to be more like the glowing colours of stained glass.

Simply lovely, but needs a colour change like the last couple.
